Surging interest in understanding the mechanisms of epigenetics is attracting researchers worldwide from a wide variety of scientific disciplines. Epigenetics is the study of the heritable changes in gene function that occur without changes in DNA sequence. It is becoming increasingly apparent that an epigenetic phenomenon is integral to both normal and aberrant gene regulation.

Histone proteins are thought to be the major carriers of epigenetic information. Histones form the nucleosomal complexes that make up the eukaryotic chromatin, which packages and organizes DNA in the nucleus. The nucleosome, the basic repeating subunit of chromatin, is composed of DNA coiled around an octamer of two molecules, each with four core histone proteins: H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. Each core histone is composed of a structured, three-helix domain called the “histone fold” and two unstructured tails.

The N-terminal histone tails extend outward from the DNA to interact with the nuclear environment where they are the targets of multiple, diverse signaling pathways. Signal transduction pathways impinging on the N-terminal histone tails result in a number of post-translational modifications including acetylation, phosphorylation, poly(ADP-ribosylation), ubiquitination and methylation. These modifications play critical roles in regulating chromatin structure and gene expression.

water damage atlanta , water damage chicago , water damage new york
With the decreasing water supplies, environmentally orientated companies are looking into systems that could help to recycle what is known as grey water. In South Africa, Bio-Systems has developed a Grey Water Additive to solve this problem.

Grey water is in between fresh/clear water, which is clean, and black water, which is highly polluted. Grey water is also known as sullage. In non-industrial areas, grey water is produced from such things as laundry, washing dishes and bathing. It generally has a high concentration of cleaning liquids, as well as fats, grease and oil.

In residential areas, grey water comprises of 50% to 80% of wastewater. The SA Grey Water Additive is formulated from a variety of high performance micro-organisms. These were developed for the treatment of grey water, in order to break down the greases, fats and oils in the water.

Included in the variety of micro-organisms in grey water are aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria. Aerobic organisms have an oxygen-based metabolism, whereas facultative anaerobic bacteria can use oxygen when it is present, but does not rely on it. By using this system it causes less strain on failing septic tanks or treatment plants. On the SA Grey Water Additive system, it uses bacteria to break down the water. This is better in the long run, environmentally, as most water treatment plants use chemicals and energy to clean the water. This might be necessary for black water, but not for grey. If residents separated their water systems and broke down their own grey water, there would be fewer chemicals and less energy wasted at the plant.

Bacteria use the oxygen to obtain energy from substrates such as fats. In the SA Grey Water Additive, bacteria are adapted to give optimum performance by degrading fats and grease in the water. This provides a normal mechanism for the selection of biomass population. By doing this it creates an opportunity for the make-up matter to change and break down.

The SA Grey Water Additive also contains micronutrients blended for sludge reduction. Micronutrients are nutrients that are needed to create life. They include chemical elements and compounds such as minerals and vitamins. They provide the complete biological activity and cause biological enhancers by reacting to the waste.

SA Grey Water Additive includes a strain of lactobacillus, which lowers the PhP level of the water. Lactobacillus is a genus of the Gram-positive facultative anaerobic bacteria, which is a major group of the lactic acid bacteria group.

It converts certain types of sugar, such as lactose, to lactic acid. Many types of lactobacillus are used to decay plant material. The production of lactic acid stops the growth of many harmful bacteria. Through this process of recycling the grey water, it will cut down the amount of water that is used from underground. This will mean in the long term that groundwater will be refreshed. The environment will return back to its natural state and plants that use groundwater naturally can once again use this resource.

All together, the SA Grey Water Additive has 14 strains of bacteria, which perform both under aerobic (oxygen environment) and anaerobic (non-oxygen environment) conditions. It’s completely biodegradable organic material. If used as directed, the SA Grey Water Additive is completely safe and harmless to humans, clothes and the environment. The process ensures that people are able reclaim otherwise wasted nutrients.

water damage atlanta , water damage chicago , water damage new york
Once you have made your decision to have a spa installed in your yard then you are going to have to decide on what type of spa enclosure you are going to have built around it. One idea is to take a look at all of the prefabricated gazebos that are available on the market and see if any of them will double as a spa enclosure.

If you are intent on building your own however; there are a few things that you should bear in mind before you get started. Have a good plan in mind before you begin building and one good idea is to find one in your area that you can copy and that way you can go back and forth looking at it any time that you run into an problem.

Use Himalayan pine for your spa enclosures main frame, because it won’t warp or crack when exposed to the elements. Also, 4 foot by 8 foot redwood lattice panels work great on the sides but they have to be cut and framed in properly and they can be fragile to work with.

Pre paint everything before hand with a good quality oil based primer with some high quality penterant added and you will be sure that your finished product will last. Decorative doors that function correctly are very difficult to build and install, so you may want to opt for a simple passageway instead.

Also one other thing to bear in mind is that when it comes to decorative carpentry it is just as difficult to build a small structure as it is to build a larger one. So, if you can afford the extra expense on materials that a larger spa enclosure will have, why not go with one that is going to have plenty of room?

water damage atlanta , water damage chicago , water damage new york
When it comes to flood damage may not be the place you would expect to encounter major claims or property losses; don’t be lulled into a sense of complacency. Although most of the time Houston presents little cause for concern, raging rains can rapidly transform the normally dry landscape into whirling waters of destruction within hours. Learn how to protect your Houston home with these quick tips:

1. Check your flood damage insurance. According to research conducted by insurance agencies, flood related losses are one of the most common claims submitted for reimbursement. Homeowners are more likely to encounter a water related loss than fire, earthquake or windstorm.

2. you experience flood damage, call for help immediately. Time is of the essence when flood damage strikes so search for a company that provides 24/7 support and assistance. Mold and mildew can begin growing in as little as 24 to 48 hours – spores can infiltrate your entire air vent system and contaminate carpeting and furniture throughout the entire home.

3. Only work with a company you know and trust. Insist upon fully licensed, bonded and insured staff members with a company that offers a guarantee on their workmanship.

4. Find a company that works with your insurance billing. Nothing is worse than experiencing flood damage only to be told you must pay out of pocket then try to wait for reimbursement from your own insurance company. Chances are you will have many other out of pocket expenses at the same time so find a company willing to bill your insurance directly – it will save time and money by allowing work to be performed fast and effectively.

5. Insist upon a company that is fully certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration. Not only will it help with insurance claims but it also helps protect the resale value of your home in the future since potential buyers will have the confidence of knowing the job was performed in accordance with the highest standards of care.

6. Finally, find a company with experience and staying power. It is important to use a company that will be there in the future should a problem take place. For example, Kiwi Services has offices throughout the nation, Flood damage services in Houston area – so you know they will be there tomorrow and well into the future should you ever need to use the service guarantee. Best of all, it provides an additional layer of protection for insurance claims and future questions should homeowner or others have concerns over the quality of workmanship. All they need to do is pick-up the phone and make one quick call for all their flooding and water related needs to be taken care of. Simple, affordable and effective.

After all, a relaxed and healthy body surely leads to both better productivity in the workplace and a more fulfilled life. While many people choose to relax by taking frequent holidays or going on weekend breaks, there’s no need for you to travel far to get a taste of the relaxation you desire. In fact, if you indulge in a spectacular bathroom, or just spend some quality time in your bathroom, you’ll be able to relax right in your own home.

The relaxing and health-giving properties of bathing take their origins from as far back as the Roman Empire. Baths were a prominent feature of Roman life, with citizens being encouraged to bathe daily in one of the many public baths. These ancient bathrooms were typically like shallow swimming pools and would span across the entirety of a room. But it took until the end of World War I for the modern purpose-built bathroom to become a main feature of every house – mostly as a result of the construction boom in the United States at the time. Before this time, bathrooms had simply been converted bedrooms or spare rooms, but the 1920s saw a revolution in the way bathrooms were designed, leading to better bathrooms for people across the world.

Today, modern innovations have heightened people’s experiences of bathrooms, clearly cementing them as a place where people can retreat and relax, rather than simply being a functional area. Bathrooms are now designed specifically for the purpose of providing a place in the house to unwind, and this can be done in a variety of ways, including the arrangement of fittings and the decoration of the bathroom.

The variety of bathroom fittings available today has also expanded greatly, so that consumers will always be able to create the bathroom they want for their own unique purposes. Whether you’re looking for whirlpool baths, granite bathroom storage units or traditional brassware bathroom taps, consumers today are sure to find exactly which bathroom fittings they need to create their dream bathroom.

If you’re looking for a better bathroom, there are a variety of bath and bathroom fitting providers to which you can turn, both on the high street and on the internet. So you can rest assured that if you decide to renovate an old bathroom to make way for one that’s more conducive to relaxation, you won’t be short of options.

As one of the largest and most diverse protein families in nature, the G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily play important roles in a variety of biological and pathological processes such as development and proliferation, neuromodulation, angiogenesis, metabolic disorders, inflammation, and viral infection. Not surprisingly, it is one of the most targeted protein families in pharmaceutical research today (Schlyer 2006).

All members of this superfamily share a similar seven transmembrane domain, but are grouped on the basis of shared sequence motifs into the following broad classes:

Class A Rhodopsin-like
Class B Secretin-like
Class C Metabotropic glutamate/pheromone
Class D Fungal pheromone
Class E cAMP receptors
Frizzled/Smoothened
Vomeronasal receptors
Putative/unclassified

The pharmaceutical industry has focused on development of modulators to this protein family, but GPCRs also represent an attractive target as biomarkers. Recent studies have implicated endothelin receptors, chemokine receptors and lysophosphatidic acid receptors in tumorgenesis and metastasis, and a recent in silico analysis found a number of GPCRs that were up-regulated in various cancers which suggests not only targets of therapeutic value, but of diagnostic and prognostic value as well. A summary of these up-regulated receptors is below.

Lung cancer
Edg2, P2Y purinoceptor 6, PAR-2, PAR-3, GPR68
Breast cancer
CCR1, CXCR-4, PAR-2
Prostate cancer
Beta 2 adrenergic receptor, CXCR-3, CXCR-4, GPR68
Melanoma
Edg6, PAR-2, mGluR1
Gastric cancer
CXCR-4, P2Y purinoceptor 5
Lymphoma
Beta 2 adrenergic receptor, Edg1, CCR7

While research continues, it is evident that GPCRs are critical in countless biological functions–and disfunctions. While the emphasis is on their role in drug development, it is becoming increasingly clear that G-protein coupled receptors will play a critical role as indicators of disease with diagnostic and prognostic potential. IMGENEX carries over 900 IHC, WB, and flow validated GPCR antibodies. View our complete GPCRs antibody list grouped by class and family.

water damage atlanta , water damage chicago , water damage new york
The US, the largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world, may soon be picking up the challenge of address climate change.

Senator John Kerry, en route to international climate change talks in Poland said, “It’s a very exciting time. It’s a moment we have been waiting for, many of us, for some period of time; we intend to pick up the baton and really run with it.”

President-elect Obama has been “very, very clear that after eight years of obstruction and delay and denial, the US is going to rejoin the world community in tackling this global challenge,” added Senator Kerry who will be an observer at the December 1st to 12th Conference.

Kerry said the US message will be “that America is back, we are back in a position of participation, of respecting views and having real discussions and trying to find the best framework for all of us.”

The United States is currently the only industrialized nation not to ratify the emission-capping Kyoto Protocol.

Obama vowed he would “engage vigorously” in global climate change talks in a video message to an international conference in California.

“Now is the time to confront this challenge once and for all. Delay is no longer an option. Denial is no longer an acceptable response. The stakes are too high. The consequences, too serious,” said Obama.

“For the first time in many years you will have an administration prepared to negotiate a commitment on the part of the US. Without that there are no prospects for an agreement,” said Elliott Diringer, vice president for international strategy at the Pew Center for Global climate change. “Will the world will be disappointed, that depends on expectations and I think expectations in some places are too high. But I think the president elected sent a very clear signal of what to expect in his statement last week when he said returning US emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. That is what he will try to deliver. It won’t be easy but it can be done.”

Two climate change bills will go before the US Senate in January.

Barbara Boxer, chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, said one bill would combat harmful gas emissions by providing 15 billion dollars a year to spur clean energy innovation and the development of advanced biofuels.

The other bill seeks to direct the US Environmental Protection Agency to establish a cap-and-trade system to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
