Pharmaceutical Companies Running Proxy Wars Against E Cigarettes

without comments

E-cigarettes have fallen victim to some vicious attacks recently from those who are allied with pharmaceutical companies and big tobacco companies alike. The products will revolutionize the smoking industry, potentially devastating both companies that market quit-smoking aids and tobacco companies who continue to peddle their death sticks to the public. A number of invalid arguments against e-cigarettes have been made, but consumers seem to be seeing right through them.

At first, the attacks came in the form of there are no studies supporting the assumption that e-cigarettes are safe. When e-cigarette manufacturers sent their products off to be tested by laboratories that they paid to do so, health organizations started calling the studies biased. The manufacturers shot back that someone had to have the studies performed if the FDA and other organizations were not going to step up to the plate and do their own research. After having ready access to the products on the shelves for months, neither the FDA or any other health organization has performed a study on the safety of e-cigarettes. Some wonder if they will ever do their own study on the products and if they will just ban them without producing any evidence that they are harmful.

Then, they were concerned about the use of nicotine being inhaled by the user. While nicotine has been in cigarettes forever and there has been plenty of time to research the long term effects of nicotine use, they claim that the safety of e-cigarettes cannot be verified without it. Apparently known to Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN, nicotine inhalers have been on the market in the United States since the mid 1990s, contradicting his statement that nicotine has never been inhaled before other than in cigarettes.

The most fallacious accusation made so far is the baseless argument that the products are being marketed toward children because they are a gadget and they make smoking look cool again. Unfortunately for their argument, e-cigarettes are at a starting price of around $50 to $150, depending on the brand, and most teenagers don’t even pay their own cell phone bill, much less have access to a bank account, credit card, or PayPal account. All 3 of these ways to purchase require that the person be at least 18 years old, yet health organizations insist the products are marketed toward minors.

The fact that the products come in many different flavors is also being used against e-cigarettes, but with the number of other products made specifically for adults that are on the market today such as alcoholic drinks, condoms, and novelty sex products, one can only wonder where the anti-smoking-anything industry comes up with these arguments.

The Real Facts About E Cigarettes

without comments

In 2004, a study by the CDC reported that there are over 4,800 chemicals released by tobacco cigarettes and that at least 69 of them are known to cause cancer. Unfortunately for smokers, there has never been a real smoking alternative that is healthier and also simulates the act of smoking… until now.

E-cigarettes contain none of the tar and none of the carcinogens that tobacco cigarettes do and while some health organizations say that they could still be dangerous, there is no evidence pointing toward that assumption. In fact, all evidence points toward e-cigarettes being not only healthier, but also safer and more convenient than tobacco cigarettes simply because they do not burn and they contain very few chemicals.

While tobacco cigarettes contain a great number of additives to make them more addictive to smokers, e-cigarettes contain just a few chemicals that are relatively harmless, including water, propylene glycol, alcohol, flavorings, and a few others. Most e-cigarette solution mixes contain less than 20 chemicals and in many cases, less than 10. When compared to the 4,800 chemicals and 69 carcinogens that are in tobacco cigarettes, one would think that e-cigarettes would be embraced by health officials worldwide, but it seems only a few have jumped on the band wagon. The FDA and others have blasted the e-cigarette, stating that many smokers mistakenly believe that this product is safer than cigarettes. With a death rate of 1 out of 2 smokers, how can the FDA make such a claim? The United States Government rakes in millions of dollars in tobacco-related taxes every year and if smokers switch to e-cigarettes, those taxes would be lost.

Pharmaceutical companies also stand to lose big if smokers switch to e-cigarettes, because the anti-smoking industry collects millions of dollars per year. Most stop smoking aids, such as the suicide-inducing drug Chantix, don’t work as well as they are advertised and in fact, stop smoking aids only keep a person off tobacco long term less than 10% of the time.

The pharmaceutical industry says that nicotine is the most addictive aspect of tobacco, but when a person stops smoking, the nicotine has cleared their system in 48 to 72 hours. After that, a metabolyte of nicotine, cotinine, clears the system in about 2 weeks. For smokers who have been smoke-free for months, the mental addiction and the habit of smoking is the hardest thing to get over. Because it is literally so easy to set down anywhere, e-cigarettes may be the bridge between a life of smoking tobacco and a life of smoking nothing at all.

FDA Protects Dangerous Cessation Drugs And Attacks Safe Alternatives

without comments

Even though e-cigarettes contain none of the tar and none of the carcinogens that tobacco cigarettes do, many health officials and the FDA in the United States are attacking the products with a vengeance, stating that there is no evidence that e-cigarettes are safe or a successful stop smoking aid.

Quite the opposite is true if they would do just a little research, since studies have been released concerning two major brands of e-cigarettes stating that they are indeed safe for their intended usage. Testimonials and comments can be found web-wide by people asserting that their e-cigarette has helped them stop smoking tobacco cigarettes and that they are upset that the government and health officials are treating the product as if it has done anyone any harm.

If the United States is supposed to be where you are innocent until proven guilty, why doesn’t this apply to e-cigarettes? There is no proof that e-cigarettes are a danger to the consumer or to the general public, as one anti-e-smoking petition claims. It states that e-smokers are causing bystanders to be subjected to deadly nicotine when in fact there is no nicotine being released into the air. Nicotine from e-cigarettes becomes absorbed in the throat instead of the lungs and the only thing exhaled by the e-smoker is a harmless water vapor.

E-smokers also report that they are actually smoking less now than they were when they were smoking what some e-smokers now call analogs, which is how many of them refer to tobacco cigarettes. Because the nicotine is absorbed so quickly, the craving is killed faster than using tobacco cigarettes. E-smokers can set it down once the craving is gone and it does not pose a risk of fire because it is not lit. As e-smokers become preoccupied with other things such as their work or household chores, they forget they even have it.

Safety is also an issue for e-smokers. The Los Angeles Times reported in 2008 that at least 24 car accidents were blamed on the stop smoking drug made by Pfizer called Chantix. The FDA has recently linked the drug to suicidal ideation and behavior in a number of individuals, but has not yet removed that product from the market. If Chantix is so dangerous and there is already evidence that it is definitely harmful, why it not getting the same treatment e-cigarettes are getting?

E Cigarettes-Special Interest Prefers 20 Million Americans Die Instead Of Profits And Taxes

without comments

While the act of smoking has been a part of cultures around the world for thousands of years, only recently have smokers had an opportunity to smoke without the smoke. The answer is the e-cigarette and even though they are available at mall kiosks around the United States, most e-smokers get theirs through online vendors.

Touted by most e-smokers as a safer, healthier way to smoke, many health officials have stated misguided grievances with the products, such as there are no tests confirming e-cigarette safety. There have in fact been at least two separate health studies that confirm that e-cigarettes are safe for their intended purpose and are not a danger to bystanders. These studies come from New Zealand and the United Kingdom from two different e-cigarette manufacturers and both studies concluded that e-cigarettes are much safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes.

The CDC announced in 2004 that their study on the chemicals found in tobacco cigarette emissions came to the conclusion that there are over 4,800 chemicals and 69 carcinogens in tobacco smoke, but even though they contain in most cases less than 20 chemicals, the Food and Drug Administration has proclaimed an import ban on e-cigarettes.

Comments made by e-smokers on forums, news articles, and blogs indicate that e-smokers and even non-smokers alike are outraged by the FDA stance toward e-cigarettes. The lives that the products could save are astronomical, since 1 in 2 people who smoke tobacco cigarettes will die due to smoking-related illnesses. With the death rate being 1 in 2, many people are perplexed by the FDA attitude toward the breakthrough, but some are not surprised.

The United States brings in millions of dollars in cigarette tax revenue every year and e-cigarettes are definitely a cheaper alternative to tobacco, since they are not taxed above normal sales tax. In a freefalling economy, the government needs all the money it can get its hands on, but at what cost?

Others point out the effect the products could have on the pharmaceutical and anti-smoking industry. Anti-smoking coalitions will crumble after losing their reason to exist and pharmaceutical companies will no longer see a demand for the stop smoking aids they produce, such as suicide-inducing Chantix, manufactured by Pfizer.

Where does the line get drawn and what is most important to the America people? Putting money in the pockets of the now unpopular Federal Reserve private bank and death-dealing pharmaceutical companies or saving the lives of millions of people who have an addiction they were duped into years ago with cartoon camels and cowboys?

What Is An E Cigarette?

If you smoke cigarettes, no doubt you have probably become annoyed by all of the restrictions that have been placed on everyone who smokes. Cigarette smokers are not the only ones who are affected by the new laws that are in force in so many places across the country. Those who smoke pipes and cigars are affected as well. Anyone with any common sense should understand why these new bans were put on smoking tobacco products in public areas. Everyone knows that smoking is harmful to your health and no one really knows this better than those who smoke, but it is a terrible thing to be a non-smoker and have to be subjected to something that is harmful to you without your consent.

Cigarette and other tobacco smokers are no longer allowed to smoke in restaurants, hospitals, bars, or any government buildings in most places. Sometimes it is banned even in parks that are outdoors. Those who smoke must learn to live with these laws because they do protect the rights of those who do not smoke. However, there is a new product that is considered by many to be a safer alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. The electronic cigarette was first developed in China.

The electronic cigarette, or E-cigarette as it is commonly referred to, is a battery operated device that is usually very similar looking to a real cigarette. It normally comes in several pieces that must be assembled in order to work. They are activated by charging them on an electronic charger similar to what you use for your cell phone. They have a battery that is usually an elongated tube that looks like the part of a cigarette that holds the tobacco. The filter end, which is usually screwed on, holds the nicotine cartridge that immolates the the taste and sensation of real tobacco when heated.

You must understand that these electronic cigarettes are different than regular cigarettes, but have not yet been proven to be healthier for you. They are free of most of the chemicals that are in traditional cigarettes. Some toxicological studies have reported that the electronic cigarettes are less harmful, but this opinion is not yet shared by everyone. The World Health Organization does not consider the E-cigarette as a stop smoking aid. E-cigarettes filters do contain nicotine that is heated to produce the similar affects of smoking without actually burning the material. Whether or not you would consider trying this new product is something that you might wish to consider. It is terribly hard to stop smoking tobacco in whatever form you use it and whether or not you would consider it to be a better alternative to standard cigarettes is really something you will have to decide for yourself.
