Home sweet home. When you are in the market to rent or buy and seemed to have found that perfect place, you can’t help but envision yourself chopping up various vegetables with that gorgeous marble countertop or hearing your kids’ loud footsteps padding up and down the stairs. You might imagine lounging around on afternoons on the wrap around wooden deck or painting the walls a color that you normally would not paint it.
Before you get ahead of yourself and get caught up in the moment, however, there are many telltale-warning signs that you need to pay attention to. One thing that many renters and homebuyers, especially first time homebuyers, overlook is the potential that the house might harbor some mold. In some situations, people won’t notice until they move into the home and will feel rather overwhelmed, frustrated, and disgusted that they are sharing the house with an unwelcome guest.
One of the first things you must take note when stepping into any new home is its smell. I’m not talking about the new carpet smell or the smell of the freshly painted walls. I’m talking about a distinct musty odor emanating from someplace that you cannot pinpoint. Mold has an unpleasant, pungent odor that is stronger in enclosed rooms where the windows and doors have been closed. This is especially true for mold that has thrived in basements, which is a perfect breeding ground for mold due to the lack of airflow, the enclosed space, and the potential for humidity to be higher.
Next, you will want to rely on your eyesight to locate any visible mold that is growing on the walls. Some rooms that are more apt to growing mold are the bathroom, laundry room, garage, and basement. Although you should check each room carefully, pay extra attention in the aforementioned rooms, and look behind any furniture, look in every nook and cranny, and check the ceilings.
For the most part, mold will not cause any immediate adverse reactions in people unless they are exposed to it for prolonged periods of time and unless they are dealing with black mold, which is the most toxic type. Some common reactions that people get include wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, sneezing, and hay fever-like symptoms. They might also be afflicted with itchy, red eyes and a watery nose. It will be better that the mold will cause you to react to it when you are looking at your potential new home rather than after you have already moved into it.
Sometimes you might not even notice there is mold in the home until you move in because it can grow underneath the floors, inside the walls, or even underneath the wallpaper. If you find that the place has mold, do not sign the lease, and if you already did, then contact your landlord as soon as possible or contact your insurance company so that mold remediation professionals can remove it.

People love to go out boating. They spend hundreds to thousands of dollars investing in one. Being knocked around too much in the boat slip can also put holes in the sides of the boats which can bring water in and which can flood it.
Before anyone takes their boats out, they have to be checked for damages such as cracks, rotting spots, leaks, warping, or rusting to the engine. The engine also has to be checked out to make sure it works right. The way to stop the damages of boats is to put them in a safe place that is dry for the time you are not using them. Another way to keep them in good condition is to wipe them down after every use and to get out all the water that has gotten in it while you were in it.
