Acai Nutritional Information

without comments

The acai berry has been praised as one of the world’s “super fruits”.  Grown in the Amazon region of South America, the berry is consumed in its raw form by the people there due to the inability to ship the fruit to other regions of the world.  The raw fruit itself only stays fresh to eat for around 24 hours and after that is no longer considered good.

The berries themselves are a deep purple color and taste similar to a blueberry.  They have become very popular in the United States due to their high amount of antioxidants, which surpasses that of the blueberry.  Until recently, the blueberry was the biggest source of antioxidants in the world.  Anti-oxidants are reported to help hold off the aging process.

Acai berries are also good for lowering cholesterol and assisting in the loss of weight.  There have also been reports that acai berries can help destroy cancer cells; more studies are being done, but the results are promising.

Acai berries are consumed now worldwide mostly in the form of beverages, but are also available in concentrated pill form.
